Snake plants are no doubt one of the most enticing and majestic plants you have ever seen.  Snake plant is also known as Mother-in-law’s tongue, St. George’s sword or Sansevieria. If you are a beginner in gardening, this is probably the best choice for you, as it is the easiest plant to take care of.

Sansevieria is one of the foremost air-purifying plants you can keep at home, it is a member of the asparagaceae family. Snake plants are suitable to keep indoors and outdoors also. Usually a snake plant can grow anywhere. This house plant has green long sword-like leaves that grow in a coaxial pattern. A mature snake plant can grow from 8 to 12 inches long. Cutting leaves is the easiest way to propagate a snake plant. Sufficient amount of water, minimal sunlight and fertilisers are enough for this plant to flourish.   • Potting: Fragile pots can be cracked by snake plant roots, that is why you have to elect a strong pot with a drainage hole in the bottom. Usually snake plants hardly need repotting as it is a slow grower, but in case of repotting or dividing the best time for repotting is in spring. 
  • Soil: For snake plants, loose well-drained mixed soil is utmost important.  
  • Watering: Only water your snake plant, when you can see the entire potting mix is completely dry. Too much water can be disastrous for a snake plant, as it can cause rotting. In winter this plant rarely needs water (one’s in a month). 
  • Sunlight: A snake plant can grow beautifully in partial sunlight or in a low light. Direct exposure to the sun can burn the leaves. In general, you can sunning the pot once a week. 
  • Propagation: Usually, It is best to propagate a snake plant in the summer or in the spring as these are known as the growing seasons. You can propagate a snake plant by cutting leaves and by dividing the roots. Snake plant roots produce rhizomes that can be easily divided by a sharp knife. Ensure to cut the plant in the same direction as the plant was growing. 
  • Fertilizer: Snake plants need a little amount of fertilizer every two to four months.
