Different soil types for plant growth

Plants are extremely important for the existence of human life on earth. As our world is developing each day, the existence of greenery is also shrinking. Having indoor plants is a great option if you want to have a hint of nature in your home. Indoor plants can be used in different ways to decorate your lovely room. But having indoor plants is not enough, you have to take proper care of the plants.

As we all know that water and sunlight are the main reasons for plant growth. Soil is also another aspect that hugely affects a plant’s growth. Every plant requires a different kind of soil and environment to grow. Here is the different type of soil which boosts a plant's growth.

  • Sandy soil: Sand is one of the main particles of soil. This particle has a very dusty texture which helps soil to dry speedily. As this soil dries quickly, the water holding capacity of sandy soil is not good. And this also affects the nutrients holding capability of the plants. This type of soil is ideal for those plants that do not need much water to survive. Adam’s needle, Butterfly wood, Blanket flower, and Wormwood thrives in sandy soil.
  • Peat soil: Peat soil is also known as peat bogs or peatlands, which is generally produced by decomposed organic materials. This type of soil has high moisture trapping ability and low pH levels, this makes them ideal for the plants that grow in acidic soil. Blueberries and azaleas grow well in peat soil.
  • Clay soil: Clay soil has a very thick consistency that contains fine mineral particles. This type of soil has low organic content. Because of the texture of this soil, it retains moisture and nutrients better than any other soils.
  • Silt soil: Silt soil contains dusty as well as solid particles, which are not larger than the particles of sand soil. This soil has a soft texture, and has a good water holding capacity. Plants including roses, tomatoes, sage, ferns and daffodils thrive in this soil.
  • Loam soil: Apart from all these, there is another soil called loam soil which is a perfect concoction of sand, clay and silt soil. This soil has a crumbly texture and is slightly acidic. The texture of this soil helps to retain all the essential nutrients and water. This is why loam soil is the best choice for plant growth.

So these are all the different types of soil that encourage plant growth. Apart from giving your plant enough water and sunlight, it is also important to use the right kind of soil.
